Here at LCP/PrivateOffice, my role encompasses both Architectural Design and Project Management responsibilities. It’s a dynamic role where I get to oversee everything from start to finish in the property refurbishment process. From making sure we’ve got all the necessary permits and licenses to diving into the creative side, crafting architectural layouts and interior design concepts. Additionally, I oversee the tender process and work closely with contractors making sure our design vision is implemented on site and ensuring a successful outcome.
What does a typical day look like for you?
One of the aspects I truly like about my work is its dynamic nature. No two days are alike. Some days, I’m out on-site, overseeing property refurbishment works. Other days, I have client meetings, presenting design proposals. Then there are days dedicated to the creative process itself – drafting designs on CAD, working on layout proposals and putting together mood boards, and engaging with contractors to ensure smooth project execution. Administrative tasks also play a crucial role, rounding out the diverse responsibilities of my role.
Tell us about interesting client instructions.
For me, the most interesting client instructions/ projects are the ones with challenging floorplans. When we are faced with a challenge like this, we have to put our creative hats on and come up with unique layout proposals to maximise every inch of space. Whether it’s figuring out how to add an additional bedroom or bathroom, every project like this is an opportunity to think outside the box. It’s like solving a puzzle.
What are the most sought-after interior design trends at present?
Minimalism design has been popular for some time, but I think it remains immensely popular, emphasizing simplicity, clean lines, clutter-free spaces, neutral colour palettes, functional furniture, and clever storage solutions. Integrating natural elements such as wood, clay and plants, alongside warm, earthy tones, is also in demand, helping to create relaxing interiors.
In addition to minimalist trends, vintage and retro styles from various decades are experiencing a resurgence. Upcycling and repurposing furniture, alongside utilising reclaimed materials and vintage items, help homeowners to curate spaces that reflect their unique tastes and personalities.
Moreover, there’s a growing interest among our clients in incorporating smart home technologies. Nowadays we do everything with our mobile devices, so homeowners seek the convenience of controlling lighting, thermostats, security systems and more, all from their devices. This not only offers convenience but also helps our clients in reducing energy consumption and running a more efficient home.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
Many landlords come to us wanting their buy to let to stand out on the rental market, and a well-executed refurbishment project can make all the difference. We offer a comprehensive solution to refurbishing your buy to let.
A significant proportion of our clients reside overseas. Given their physical absence, they are unable to closely monitor project developments. This is when we come in, we manage the entire property refurbishment process from start to finish, creating a personal and convenient service for all our clients. Maintaining open lines of communication becomes paramount. To help our clients feel at ease we send regular updates and progress reports, ensuring they feel connected and informed despite the geographical distance.
Some of our clients looking to refurbish their home need help with the creative side of the process. We help make their vision become a reality. We arrange a tailored design workshop to select samples, colour schemes and fixtures and finishings to suit each clients individual taste. We will manage all the complexities that come with refurbishing your property, from concept to completion, we act as your sole point of contact.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
I recently went on holiday to El Gouna in Egypt
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
When I was a younger, I used to dream about being a vet, and that was my backup plan when I went to Uni.
How do you relax after a long day?
At the end of my typical day, I like to wind down with a workout, whether it’s cardio or yoga. However, if the day has been particularly demanding, I might opt for a glass of wine.
